Dr. Leonard Gordon, MD – San Francisco, CA

After doing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of California at San Francisco, Dr. Leonard Gordon trained at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in hand & upper extremity surgery.Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Gordon served as an attending surgeon in hand and microsurgical reconstruction at California Pacific Medical Center (formerly Davies Hospital) in San Francisco. Subsequently, he joined the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery where he served as Chief of Hand Surgery for 12 years before entering private practice in San Francisco.

His academic pursuits include research related to microvascular transplantation, toe-to-hand transplantation and flexor tendon surgery. This research has resulted in over 80 scientific publications. He directed an accredited hand surgery fellowship for 21 years and taught upper extremity anatomy to the UCSF medical students for over 20 years, receiving the best teacher award for preclinical teaching on numerous occasions.

Dr. Gordon is the CEO of PONTiS Orthopaedics, an emerging medical device company focused on innovations in hand & orthopaedic surgery to improve surgical techniques and patient outcomes. The company has developed and marketed an implant system for the repair of flexor tendons in the hand & recently launched a system to provide a stronger and faster repair of the Achilles tendon at the ankle. The company has received clearance from the FDA for use in flexor tendon repair in the hand, Achilles tendon repair, bone attachment of the patella tendon at the knee, biceps tendon attachment at the shoulder and elbow, and repair of the scapho-lunate ligament at the wrist.

Dr. Gordon is the managing partner of Post Street Surgery Center, a successful single specialty orthopaedic surgery center in San Francisco.
